Soft skills simulation rulebook

Team IQ

Inside-team moments. Situational evidence. One spine with Deal IQ.

Simulate how people show up with peers and managers, score fit on 24 O*NET-aligned soft skills, and give leaders coaching evidence they can audit.

Section 01

What Team IQ is

Team IQ trains soft skills in social context: how reps read peers, managers, and cross-functional partners inside the pod. Deal IQ trains deal qualification with buyers. Both share one enablement spine, one soft-skill library, and one person record for the manager.

Team IQ is not a personality test. We report which skill the rep reached for in which social scene, how often, and whether the fiction reacted well, went quiet, or pushed back.

Section 02

World engine

Team IQ runs on an arc-agnostic engine. Managers define the world; players load the stored arc at runtime.

Two demo worlds (by design)

STEAMIQ (public): Relay Platform pod, net-new cast. Try before you buy.

Manager demo workspace: a seeded enablement roster with learning paths, soft-skill and deal-qualification evidence, culture signals, and cross-sim exports on one person record.

Section 03

Season 1 episodes (Ep1-Ep8)

Each episode is a social chapter on a fictional pod. Public demo: Relay Platform on room code STEAMIQ. Canon order follows the story spine.

Ep1 · The Birthday

Team social and hallway beats. Relationship building and social perceptiveness under low-stakes visibility.

Ep2 · The Spill

Incident accountability. Ownership vs quiet cleanup when a peer is under pressure.

Ep3 · The Retro

Team forum and async compose. Listen-before-fix, conflict repair, persuasion under heat.

Ep4 · The 1:1

Managing up and feedback reception when the manager names a growth edge directly.

Ep5 · The Handoff

Cross-functional renewal prep. Accountability and attention to detail for a clean CS handoff.

Ep6 · The Rumor

Unofficial merge talk before facts arrive. Flexibility and social perceptiveness under uncertainty.

Ep7 · The Win

Shared credit after an early renewal. Relationship building, initiative, and persuasion with momentum.

Ep8 · The Reset

Pod reset forum closes the first month. Flexibility, feedback reception, and managing up into Q1.

Section 04

Beat types

Episodes use 3 to 6 beats. Each beat tags 1 to 3 skills. Fit scores are deterministic, never LLM-owned.

  1. Choice - pick a directed move (listen vs fix, own vs deflect).
  2. Dialogue - reply to a peer or manager in the room.
  3. Compose - write Slack or async with clear owner, date, and tone.
  4. Observe - read the room before you speak or act.

Loop: narrator open, optional artifact, beat, NPC reaction, repeat, narrator close. Max 2 new artifacts per episode.

Section 05

Soft skill catalog (24)

Curated O*NET work styles from softSkillLibrary.ts. Managers assign 3 to 5 focus skills. Other library skills still score when a beat touches them.

Pod-native axes

Episodes also track constructs mapped to library proxies: psychological safety, managing up, peer trust repair, values alignment, feedback reception.

Section 06

Situational fit bands

Every scored beat assigns situational fit, not a permanent trait label.

Well matched Right skill for the social moment; peers respond positively.

Risky here Skill useful elsewhere but fragile in this scene type.

Mismatch Wrong tool for the moment; peer reaction marks the gap.

Debrief copy groups evidence by fit band so managers can coach behavior in context, not label reps as "bad at empathy."

Section 07

Scoring and debrief

Debrief and the manager dossier use a signed polar chart from -100 to +100, with provenance managers can open in a 1:1.

Facilitator checklist

Use this before and after a Team IQ session. Prefer numbered checks over a marketing pitch.

  1. Create or assign the room; set genre, difficulty, and 3 to 5 focus skills.
  2. Brief players: situational fit bands, not trait labels; Klara is sparse coaching, not a live grade.
  3. Confirm episode intent (assess snapshot vs practice arc). Pilot default: Ep3 assess, then Ep3-Ep4 practice.
  4. During play, watch manager live strip for progress; do not interrupt mid-beat.
  5. After play, open Summary: category overview, focus-skill fit, polar chart, growth edge.
  6. Review Moments and Choices provenance with the rep in a 1:1.
  7. Decide rematch or next episode from focus-skill gaps; log the path step on the person record.
  8. When Deal IQ shares a skill, open cross-sim on the same dossier before coaching.

What managers see

Team IQ evidence lands in the manager Command Center on the same person record as Deal IQ. Soft skills and deal qualification stay parallel lanes; the dossier merges the story.
